How to transfer WhatsApp chats from an old Android to a new iPhone.

To transfer WhatsApp chats from an old Android phone to a new iPhone, follow these official steps using Move to iOS and WhatsApp’s built-in transfer support.

Switching phones is exciting, but transferring your WhatsApp chats? That can feel a bit nerve-wracking. Thankfully, WhatsApp now supports a direct way to move your chat history from an Android phone to an iPhone — and it’s not too complicated if you follow the right steps.

Here’s how to do it, step by step:

🧰 What You’ll Need:
Your old Android phone (Android 5 or newer).

Your new iPhone (iOS 15.5 or above).

Both phones fully charged.

A stable Wi-Fi connection (or connect Android to iPhone’s hotspot).

The same phone number on both devices.

WhatsApp installed on both devices (latest version).

Be ready to reset your iPhone if it’s already set up — the transfer only works during setup.

👣 Step-by-Step Transfer:

  1. Prepare your iPhone
Turn on your new iPhone (or reset it), and during setup:

On the “Apps & Data” screen, select “Move Data from Android.”

A six-digit code will appear.

  1. Set up your Android
Install the Move to iOS app from the Google Play Store.

Open the app, accept the terms, and enter the six-digit code from the iPhone.

Once connected, you’ll see a list of data you can transfer — select WhatsApp.

Tap Continue, and the data will begin transferring.

  1. Final steps on iPhone
    Finish setting up your iPhone.

Install WhatsApp from the App Store.

Open WhatsApp and log in using the same phone number you used on Android.

When prompted, tap Start to let the migration complete.

Your chats, photos, voice messages, and group conversations should all appear just like before!

💡 Good to Know:
Call history and peer-to-peer payments won’t transfer.

You must use Move to iOS during initial iPhone setup — not afterward.

All your transferred chats remain end-to-end encrypted.
